LOGOS
2 BOOKSHIP DOCKS IN KINGSTON
Jamaicans
of all walks of life, once again have the privilege of accessing
affordable books, courtesy of the international charity book ship,
MV Logos 2 which is in the island from February 11-March 12.
Transport
and Works Minister, Hon. Robert Pickersgill in his capacity as Deputy
Prime Minister extended welcome on behalf of the government and
people of Jamaica at the official welcoming ceremony for the vessel
on Saturday, February 10. The ceremony took place aboard the ship
which is docked at the Rockfort Cement Company Pier.
Delivering
the welcome at the ceremony, Minister Pickersgill noted that “
The work carried by Educational Book Exhibits Ltd. of the UK over
the past thirty-six years through the MV LOGOS and its successor,
the Logos 2, bears testimony to the largely untapped but very real
possibilities that can unfold for mankind, when humanity is really
at the forefront of our everyday considerations.”
Pointing
to the humanitarian efforts of the LOGOS 2, Minister Pickersgill
said, “we have all as citizens of our global village as a
result of awesome developments in information technology, been far
more exposed and aware in recent years of the true nature of the
devastation often accompanying natural disasters. The LOGOS 2 has
also been involved in and has provided significant humanitarian
relief in times of tragedy, and often, where there is simply just
the need.”
The
LOGOS 2 which is making its first visit to Jamaica, has been in
existence for seventeen years and has played host to some nine million
persons from 82 countries. In addition to the ship’s exhibition
of books, the programme includes wholesome training seminars for
families and young people, as well as cultural presentations.
The
core values of the book ship were highlighted by Minister Pickersgill
as “ loving God; esteeming people; working as a team and serving
with excellence”, values he says have ‘been in great
measure the foundation on which the success of your mission has
been built.”
