PARKING FEE HIKE AT SANGSTER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Parking fees at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay have been increased as of Monday January 2, 2006.

The new fee structure will see persons paying $100.00 for the first hour or part thereof, an additional $100.00 for the second hour or part thereof and parking in excess of two hours and up to a maximum of 24 hours $300.00. It will cost an additional $300.00 for every 24 hour period thereafter or part thereof.

The increase will make the airport parking fees in Montego Bay equivalent to those at the Norman Manley Airport in Kingston. These new rates will not affect tour operators such as JUTA and JCAL which operate under separate agreements with the airport.

The public will benefit from automatic systems to be put in place to assist in the speedy processing of vehicles and from expanded parking areas. Part of the automated system already in place involves the parking lot gate being opened and a ticket being printed which shows the time the vehicle entered the lot. Upon the return of the driver, the machine then calculates the cost of his/her stay in accordance with established rates.
