BELGIAN AMBASSADOR PAYS COURTESY CALL

New Belgian Ambassador to Jamaica, His Excellency, Fre’de’ric MEURICE paid a courtesy call on Minister of State, Hon. Joseph Hibbert on Thursday, October 2 at the Offices of the Ministry of Transport and Works. Minister Hibbert deputised for Minister Mike Henry who was unavoidably absent. The new Ambassador replaced former Ambassador and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, His Excellency Herman Portocarero who is now posted to the Belgian Embassy in New York.

During the visit, the Ambassador discussed with Minister Hibbert a wide range of subjects. Among these were, Minister Henry’s impending visit to Belgium during the week of October 27. This is with a view to receiving one hundred buses that are being procured from Belgium.

The Ambassador was also briefed on the Cross the Harbour Project and was promised information on the Falmouth Cruise Ship Pier. The possibility of a visit to see the simulator and Admiralty House with a view to providing funding was also discussed.

The Belgian government was very instrumental in the erection of the Half Way Tree Transport Centre by way of the financing of the facility.

Others participating in the meeting were Mrs. Elsa May Binns, Chief Technical Director and Ms. Valerie Simpson, Director of Policy.
