Since April 21, Secretaries of the Ministry of Transport and Works have embarked on a series of activities in observance of Secretaries Week.
On April 21, there was a workshop on Professional Ethics and Growth courtesy of the Professional Training Institute. April 22, there was a Recognition Ceremony where Minister Henry lauded the efforts of the secretaries throughout the Ministry. In commending the nurses for their work, the Minister noted that he had the greatest of respect for secretaries who basically served as their boss’ right hands. “Many times it appears that we your bosses do not appreciate you, but nothing could be further from the truth…we are truly indebted to you for your sterling contributions to the smooth running of our organization,” the Minister said. He promised to make efforts in seeing to it that ensuing Secretaries’ Weeks celebration would be ‘bigger and better’.
Also in attendance at that ceremony were Minister of State, Hon. Joseph Hibbert and Permanent Secretary, Dr. Alwin Hales. April 23 and 24 saw the secretaries going on tours of Jamaica Broilers and Grace Kennedy respectively.
The week culminated with a luncheon for secretaries from both the Ministry of Transport and Works and the Ministry of Water and Housing at the Morgan’s Harbour Hotel in Port Royal. The proceedings at the luncheon were presided over by Mr. Paul Clemetson, Chairman of the Secretaries’ Week Organising Committee, while Ms. Inez Ledgister, Director of Training in the Ministry of Transport and Works paid tribute to the Secretaries. Mrs. Doreen Prendergast, Director of Housing in the Ministry of Water and Housing offered prayer while Ms. Cecile Manning also from that same Ministry did the vote of thanks.
Musical offerings were presented by Mr. Omar Auld from the Ministry of Transport and Works. With the soulful strings of his accompanying guitar, he belted out some well known songs all of which were well-received by the appreciative audience. |
