MATTERS DISCUSSED ON RJR’S ‘BALANCING JUSTICE’

On
Tuesday, September 20, 2005, Permanent Secretary, Dr. Alwin Hales
was part of a distinguished panel which discussed transport matters
on Radio Jamaica’s programme, ‘Balancing Justice’.
The programme took the form of an outside broadcast and was done
from Carter Hall (Holy Childhood High School)
The
programme explored issues associated with the public transportation
system in Jamaica and examined a variety of subjects. These included
taxi fares, taxi regulations, JUTC and it service to the public,
safety and transport operations, legislative amendments as well
as the whole matter of competition as it related to the JUTC and
taxi operators.

Dr.
Hales was one of three persons from the Ministry and its Agencies;
the others were Mr. Patrick McIntosh, President of the JUTC and
Mrs. Joan Fletcher, Managing Director of the Transport Authority.
Other members of the panel were Mr. Gary Byfield of the National
Transport Co-operative Society (NTCS), Snr. Superintendent Elan
Powell of the Police Traffic Division, Mr. Willard Costley representing
taxi operators, Messrs. Garth McBean and Wendell Wilkins, Attorneys-at-law
and Mr. Andre’ Earle who moderated the programme.
Part
two of the programme is expected to be broadcast on Tuesday, September
27 from the studios of RJR.
