JCAA
RETAINS ITS CATEGORY 1 STATUS

The
Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) retains its category one
status following the re-certification of Air Jamaica and Air Jamaica
Express.
In
March of this year, the Federal Aviation Authority of the United
States (FAA) reaffirmed the JCAA’s category one status pending
the re-certification of Air Jamaica and Air Jamaica Express. The
JCCA has since completed a detailed review of the operating manuals,
procedures, resources, organizational structures and facilities
of the island's two major airlines and have ensured that all operations
are in accordance with the new Civil Aviation Regulations (2004).
The new regulations were passed by parliament in December of last
year.
In
a press release on August 5, 2005, Minister of Transport and Works,
the honourable Robert Pickersgill said that the process of re-certification
of the National Carrier and Air Jamaica Express was an important
requirement in order for the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority to
maintain international standards. He said that the JCAA will continue
to review the operations of domestic airline operators to verify
their conformance with the Authority’s Regulations
