ROAD IMPROVEMENT COMING FOR EASTWOOD PARK/CONSTANT SPRING ROADS

As of September, commuters will have a smoother passage traveling along Eastwood Park and Constant Spring Roads in the Corporate Area. This is being facilitated by the National Works Agency (NWA) which will be carrying out the improvement works.

Speaking at the signing ceremony held at the NWA's Corporate Office at 140 Maxfield Avenue, Minister Robert Pickersgill said that the improvement works were part and parcel of the programme being undertaken by the government to 'arrest the problem of congestion' Continuing, he said that the demolition work to be done at the corner of Constant Spring Road and Dunrobin Avenue would facilitate further improvement along the Washington Boulevard/Dunrobin corridor from the Molynes Road intersection up to Constant Spring Road.

The contracts which have been awarded to General Paving Company and Rebar Construction Limited, will see some $14 million being spent to rehabilitate 1.4 kilometres of roadway in the Eastwood Park area inclusive of construction and repairs to kerbs and sidewalks, drain cleaning, road repairs and resurfacing as well as road markings. The work is expected to be completed in six weeks.

Additionally, approximately $2 million is to be spent on demolition of a building at the corner of Constant Spring Road and Dunrobin Avenue to facilitate a turning lane at Constant Spring Road and additional lanes on Dunrobin Avenue, which is expected to be completed in four weeks.

Minister Pickersgill said that it was expected that the work would improve the overall quality of the road surface, reduce congestion and vehicle operating costs for motorists. He noted that the Corporate Area had the largest concentration of motor vehivles and traffic congestion. He also highlighted the fact that work to be done at Eastwood Park/Constant Spring Road, coupled with those underway at several major intersections across the Corporate Area, would have a positive impact on the motoring public in Kingston and St. Andrew.
