Transport and Works Minister Robert Pickersgill toured sections
of Kingston and St. Andrew on Thursday April 29, as work continues
on the widening of selected roads and intersections under the Traffic
Management Programme.
The
works are being facilitated by the Road Maintenance Fund (RMF).
One
of the roads being widened is Old Hope Road.
In
the current Phase (Phase I), the section of Old Hope Road between
the Office of the Commissioner of Police and Seaview Avenue is being
widened, at a cost of J$12 million.
In
the remaining two Phases to come, Old Hope Road between the Commissioner's
Office and Monroe Road, and between Seaview Avenue and Easton Avenue
will be widened.
The
Minister, along with officials of the Road Maintenance Fund, the
Ministry of Transport and Works and the National Works Agency, also
looked at the works in progress at Half-Way-Tree Road.
In
the current Phase of works, Half-Way-Tree Road between Ruthven Road
and Chelsea Avenue is being widened at a cost of J$10 million.
There
is one Phase of works that remains: Chelsea to Oxford Road.
It
is expected that the road widening works between these two roadways
will be done during the traditional summer holidays.
