Transport and Works Minister Robert Pickersgill toured sections of Kingston and St. Andrew on Thursday April 29, as work continues on the widening of selected roads and intersections under the Traffic Management Programme.

The works are being facilitated by the Road Maintenance Fund (RMF).

One of the roads being widened is Old Hope Road.

In the current Phase (Phase I), the section of Old Hope Road between the Office of the Commissioner of Police and Seaview Avenue is being widened, at a cost of J$12 million.

In the remaining two Phases to come, Old Hope Road between the Commissioner's Office and Monroe Road, and between Seaview Avenue and Easton Avenue will be widened.

The Minister, along with officials of the Road Maintenance Fund, the Ministry of Transport and Works and the National Works Agency, also looked at the works in progress at Half-Way-Tree Road.

In the current Phase of works, Half-Way-Tree Road between Ruthven Road and Chelsea Avenue is being widened at a cost of J$10 million.

There is one Phase of works that remains: Chelsea to Oxford Road.

It is expected that the road widening works between these two roadways will be done during the traditional summer holidays.
