The
Civil Aviation Authority was established by the Civil Aviation Act
1995 and became operational on May 6, 1996 under the former Ministry
of Public Utilities and Transport. The Authority is responsible
for regulating Air Navigation and all matters relating to safety
in Civil Aviation in Jamaica. In its mission the Civil Aviation
Authority is to ensure that the public is provided with a safe,
reliable, efficient and user friendly Air Transport System, which
is guided by the standards and recommended practices developed by
the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Functions
of Authority
The
Authority is responsible for the provision of air navigation services
and safety services, including;
- Air
Traffic Services
- Registration
of aircraft;
- Licensing
of personnel;
- Establishment
of aerodrome standards
- Aircraft
accident investigation
- Aeronautical
telecommunications and metrological services
