Western Hemisphere Transport Initiative

We at the Island Traffic Authority would like to make it easier for you, our customers to conduct business with us. Please note the following requirements for certificates and licenses:

CERTIFICATE OF FITNESS

Get an Import Entry (C78) along with a copy, from Jamaica Customs.
Pay an Examination Fee for the Certificate of Fitness at the Collector of Taxes (the Tax Office), where a receipt will be issued.
Present the Vehicle with the Documents from items 1 & 2 above to the Examination Depot where the vehicle will be examined.

RE-CERTIFICATION OF VEHICLES

Pay an Examination Fee at the Collector of Taxes, where a receipt will be issued.
Present the expired Certificate of Fitness, the Receipt for the examination fee and the Vehicle to an Examination Depot, where the vehicle will be examined.
L FORM
Pay an Examination Fee for L Form at the Collector of Taxes where a receipt will be issued.
Present the Certificate of Fitness, Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate, the Examination Fee Receipt and the Vehicle to the Examination Depot for examination.
NB: For a second L Form a letter is required from the Transport Authority.

REPLACEMENT OF CERTIFICATE OF FITNESS


Make a report to the Police Station, where you will be issued with a Police Report.
Obtain a record of the vehicle from the Collector of Taxes and pay an Examination Fee for a Certificate of Fitness, a receipt will be issued.
Present the documents from items 1 & 2 (Police Report, Record of the vehicle, Examination Receipt) and Title if available, along with the vehicle to the Examination Depot.

NB ONLY VEHICLES MEETINGS THE CRITERIA OF THE RULES AND REGULATION OF THE ROAD TRAFFIC ACT WILL BE ISSUED A CERTIFICATE.

DRIVER’S LICENCE

You will need:

A Learner’s Licence
An Application for Driver’s Licence form certified by a Justice of the Peace (and a Doctor for General Driver’s Licence).
Three passport size photographs certified by a Justice of the Peace.
Pay an Examination Fee for Driver’s Licence at the Collector of Taxes, where a receipt will be issued.
Present the above items to the Examination Depot where an appointment will be given.
On the day of the appointment take documents (from items 1,2,3, &4), Instructor and Vehicle to be used for the test, to the Examination Depot.

NB: If successful a Certificate of Competence will be issued.

REPLACEMENT OF DRIVER’S LICENCE

Report loss to Police Station where a Police Report will be issued.
Have two recent similar passport size photographs, taken at a Photo Studio.
Present the Police Report and Photographs to the Island Traffic Authority (1 ½ Manhattan Road, Kingston 5), where you will be required to complete a form.
Present the Completed form, Police Report and Photographs to the Collector of Taxes (the original place of issue), along with your Tax Registration Number, TRN, where a substitute Driver’s Licence will be issued.
