Student of the Edwin Allen High School, Stephanie Bailey has been selected to attend a Young Reporters Training camp in Singapore from August 1 and 11, 2009. The trip is sponsored by the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA) in Singapore and comes on the heels of a trip to Singapore led by Minister Mike Henry earlier this year.

The camp celebrates the spirit of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games which is to be held in Singapore from August 14-26, 2010. Through this camp, MICA hopes to promote the Olympic spirit and values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect among youths from all over the world, through the twin pillars of sports, culture and education.

During the camp, participants will be given the opportunity to undergo professional media training conducted by leading academic institutions and media organizations in Singapore. Training content provided will include skills in broadcast, print and photo journalism, as well as motion graphics and broadcast design. The hope of the organizers is that participants will learn about each others’ country, people and culture and ultimately foster long term camaraderie and friendship.

The Young Reporters Training Camp targets applicants between the ages of 14 and 20. They must have an outstanding academic profile, strong language and writing skills, a basic understanding of English and good conduct. They should also demonstrate strong leadership qualities and have a keen interest in journalism and/or the media.

Participants will be required to complete a news/reporting project during their stay in Singapore. Outstanding participants stand a chance of enjoying full sponsorship to return to Singapore during the Youth Olympic Games in 2010. In order to create reporting opportunities for the participants, the Young Reporters Training Camp have been timed around key social/cultural and sports events in Singapore.

The Ministry of Information Communication and the Arts in Singapore has fully sponsored the Training Camp, including airfare, accommodation, meals, ground transport and training costs.
