The Minister of Transport and Mining, Mike Henry, who made the announcement, says during a meeting of the parties, which went late into the evening yesterday, it was agreed that the extension for another month will be given.

Minister Henry says, as the negotiations continue to settle at an Equilibrium Toll, traffic count factors are being taken into consideration and this could play a significant role in determining the final outcome. He says an Equilibrium Toll is one which would be economically viable for the operators and affordable for the road users.

The original 25 % discount would have expired tomorrow April 22.

Meanwhile, Minister Henry wants the operators to do everything possible to complete the Rest Stop facility located at Unity Valley, near the Moneague exit point as soon as possible. Motorists using the Highway have been calling for the facility to become operational as a matter of urgency. Minister Henry says the structural works have been completed, but electricity and water facilities are still being worked on. He wants these works to be completed speedily so that the Rest Stop can be open to the public in May.
