The Ministry of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport, (MSETT) was established on May 24, 2023. It is comprised of the former Ministry of Science, Energy and Technology (MSET) and the Ministry of Transport and Mining, with the exception on the Mining portfolio, which upon announcement by the Most Honourable Prime Minister Andrew Holness, was transferred, along with all its related entities, to the newly formed Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining.

MSETT has portfolio responsibility for thirty (30) agencies and departments spanning the country’s science, energy, telecommunications and Transport sectors. This has a direct impact on its structure, mandate, mission and vision, and a broadening of its responsibilities. Consequently, there have been strategic changes compared with the previous year.

The purpose of the Transport Division of the Ministry of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport (MSETT) encompasses the provision of a safe, integrated and efficient transport system. The Ministry has regulatory responsibility for the safety of all modes of transport, both publicly and privately operated.

Policy development is also an overarching responsibility of the MSETT, which drives continuous revision and improvement of policy initiatives that incorporate the national vision and outcomes which are aligned with international best practices within the transport sector.

There are twelve (12) reporting public sector bodies through which the Ministry seeks to fulfil its mandate of providing a safe and efficient transportation system.
