Kingston Container Access Channel Improvement
(Harbour Dredging)

The Port Authority of Jamaica in a continuous effort to maintain competitiveness in the Transshipment Business has embarked on a project of capital and maintenance dredging to accommodate vessels with draft of up to 14.5 metres and beams 42 metres.

This will involve:

Dredging within the East Channel to a depth of up to 18.0m Chart Datum (CD).
Dredging of the Kingston Harbour outer approach to a depth of up to 16.4m Chart Datum (CD).
Dredging of the Kingston Harbour Ship Channel and Port Bustamante Basin to a depth of up to 15.7 Chart Datum (CD).
Some of the dredged Material will be used as filling for land bank for future port development in the Hunts Bay area.

Contract period is not to exceed 12 months.

Financing

This project is being financed through a loan of US$27,273,767.36 from Commerzbank, Belgium. This sum represents 100% financing of the contract sum plus the cost of contingencies including the cost of ancillary works.

Scope Of Loan

To finance 100% of the cost for improvement to the access channel to the Kingston Container Terminal plus cost of:

Risk Insurance Premium
Local costs
Contingencies and ancillary works
Disbursement Schedule

10% Mobilization payment to the contractor.
5% as a further advance against the work to be executed Balance payable against certificates issued by the engineer.
Contractor
Tenders were invited from seven (7) contractors and on the recommendation of the National Contracts Commission NCC, the contract as been awarded to Jan De Nul N.V. of Belgium to undertake the dredging works. Contract sum US$27,273,767.36.
