Works 
The mission of the Works portfolio of the Ministry of Housing, Transport, Water and Works is: the achievement of efficient, high quality and timely architectural, engineering and technical works. To this end, the Ministry accepts its responsibility for the provision, maintenance and expansion of the island's main road network while assisting where possible with parochial and other types of roads. The Ministry's mandate in terms of infrastructure development also extends to bridges, some drains and gullies, river training and sea defence. As per the National Transport Policy, the Ministry proposes to target particular road sectors. The objective is to support the development of sectors of the economy likely to generate additional resources rapidly which can then be applied to development of infrastructure that will benefit other sectors of the economy and the country at large.
